Cupertino, CA March 5, 2004 - Barracuda Networks, the leading provider of enterprise-class spam firewall solutions, announced today the immediate availability of an upgrade to SpamAssassin 2.63 for its entire Barracuda Spam Firewall product line. The Barracuda Spam Firewall Family is an integrated hardware and software product line that provides businesses with an enterprise-class spam and virus protection that is easy to use and affordable. Barracuda Networks is delivering automatic firmware updates to all existing customers free of charge. SpamAssassin 2.63 features enhanced security and performance as well as additional spam blocking features.

We recognize that spam and virus techniques are constantly evolving and we are committed to making sure our product line is continuously up-to-date on the latest defense methods, said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. With SpamAssassin we are able to seamlessly integrate the most trusted spam and virus blocking techniques into our appliances without disrupting our customers email service.

In addition, Barracuda Networks recently made enhancements to its proprietary Barracuda Spam Fingerprint technology making it possible for the Barracuda Spam Firewall to boost spam filtration using specialized URL analysis algorithms that closely examine the URLs contained in suspicious email messages and compare them against Barracudas database of known spammer URLs. This improvement was deployed automatically to current Barracuda Spam Firewall customers at no additional charge.

About the Barracuda Spam Firewall
The Barracuda Spam Firewall is available in three models and supports from 1,000 to 25,000 active users with no per user licensing fees. The Barracuda Spam Firewall can be installed in front of the email server in typically less than five minutes and is automatically updated hourly to block new forms of spam and viruses. Its architecture leverages open source virus and spam solutions in conjunction with eight defense layers. The eight defense layers are: denial of service and security protection, IP block list, rate control, virus check with archive decompression, proprietary virus check, user specified rules, spam fingerprint check and a spam rule-based scoring system with Bayesian analysis. The architecture minimizes the processing of each email, which yields the performance required to process millions of messages per day. Unlike software solutions, the Barracuda Spam Firewall reduces the load placed on the email server by off-loading both spam and virus filtering. Barracuda Networks also offers the Energize Update subscription service to automatically update the Barracuda Spam Firewall with the latest spam rules and virus definitions.
